Portrush Harbour

County Antrim · Coastal

Free

Portrush's harbour sits right below Ramore Head, a rocky peninsula that separates the town's two main beaches, and it fishes very similarly to nearby Portstewart with the same run of species. Cod, whiting, dogfish, wrasse, flounder and mackerel on feathers are all standard here, and conger are a real prospect on larger mackerel or squid baits fished after dark around the harbour structure. The rock ground around Ramore Head itself gives a rougher, more exposed alternative to the sheltered harbour water for anglers wanting a change of scenery.

Access: Free shore access around the harbour and Ramore Head, no rod licence needed for sea fishing

Parking: Parking available around Portrush town centre and harbour, short walk to Ramore Head

Large mackerel or squid baits fished after dark are the standard approach for conger around the harbour structure. Feathers work for mackerel in season, with worm and small fish baits covering the flatfish and dogfish through the rest of the year.

Sea fishing needs no rod licence anywhere in the UK - shore, boat or wreck marks are all licence-free.
