Trimingham Beach

Norfolk · Coastal

Free

A quiet stretch of shingle and sand between Mundesley and Sidestrand, backed by the crumbling clay cliffs that make this bit of the north Norfolk coast such fast-eroding ground. The wooden groynes stepping out into the surf break the beach into distinct gullies worth working one at a time, and the mix of cod, whiting, dab, flounder, Dover sole, silver eel, bass, thornback ray, smooth-hound, turbot and brill on offer here reflects just how little pressure this spot gets compared with the piers either side of it.

Access: Free shore access, no rod licence needed for sea fishing

Parking: Limited roadside parking in the village, steep cliff-path access down to the beach

Fish either side of the groynes rather than tight against them to avoid constant snagging, worm baits for the flatfish and eel close in, a bigger crab or fish bait cast beyond the bar for ray and smooth-hound. Cliff erosion is active along this stretch, so stay well clear of the base on the walk down.

Sea fishing needs no rod licence anywhere in the UK - shore, boat or wreck marks are all licence-free.
