Species you can expect

SpeciesBest season
Smooth-hound Summer
Bass Summer, Autumn
Dogfish Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter
Silver eel Summer, Autumn

Choose your day by the sea: calmer water for smooth-hound, a rougher running sea for the big bass, and fresh peeler crab on the hook for either. Dogfish will take almost anything on offer, and silver eels go for peeler crab and mackerel baits. The map pin is Wigtown Harbour, a town point for the bay rather than a single named beach, so ask locally or look at the tide before choosing a stretch of shoreline.

Sea fishing needs no rod licence anywhere in the UK - shore, boat or wreck marks are all licence-free.
