Whitstable Harbour
FreeA proper working harbour mark right in the heart of oyster-town Kent, fishable off the harbour arm or the pebble beach either side, casting a rod's length out between the wooden groynes. This is unfussy, no-nonsense marking fishing, drop a bait down and let the tide do the work. Head west toward Seasalter and the beach opens right out into shallow sand flats, which fish well for bass when there's a bit of sea running, though you'll be casting a long way to reach fish over that shallow ground.
Access: Free shore access, no rod licence needed for sea fishing
Parking: Public car parks around the harbour and along the seafront; free shore access with no permit needed

Lugworm dug straight off the local flats is the top bait here and it's free if you're prepared to dig for it. Fish it after dark if you can, the day-trippers and tourists clear off the beach and the fish push in properly close to shore. The Seasalter stretch is shallow enough that you'll want a decent lump of weight to punch a bait out past the shallows to where the fish are actually holding up.
