Redcar Esplanade

Redcar and Cleveland · Coastal

Free

A sea wall mark right along Redcar's Esplanade, with a long flight of stairs down onto clear sand in front. It's about as comfortable a mark as this stretch of coast offers, level ground, easy access from the pavement, and clear sand underfoot that keeps you fishing rather than untangling rigs, which makes it a solid choice for anyone easing into shore fishing.

Access: Free shore access, no rod licence needed for sea fishing

Parking: On-street parking along the Esplanade, direct access via the stairs or pavement

Species you can expect

SpeciesBest season
Cod / codling Autumn, Winter
Whiting Winter
Flounder Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter

Worm, crab and fish baits all work here, and it's very much a high tide mark, the clear sand means snag-free fishing so it's a good one for running gear rather than fixed rigs. Summer brings the crowds, dog walkers and swimmers close to the water, so expect to share the beach and fish around them rather than having the mark to yourself.

Sea fishing needs no rod licence anywhere in the UK - shore, boat or wreck marks are all licence-free.
