Otterspool Promenade
FreeThe furthest-inland point on the River Mersey where saltwater species turn up regularly, making Otterspool Promenade an easy-access mark for flatfish, whiting, silver eels and the odd winter cod. Currents can run hard here, so keep an eye on the tide.
Access: Free shore fishing off the promenade wall

Species you can expect
| Species | Best season |
|---|---|
| Flounder | Autumn, Winter |
| Whiting | Winter |
| Cod | Winter |
| Eel | Summer, Autumn |
Tidal flow can be forceful here - fish a heavier lead than you'd expect for the estuary and keep tackle simple given the mud and current. Similar species mix to Liverpool Marina further upriver.
Fishing UK freshwater in England or Wales requires a valid Environment Agency rod licence for anyone aged 13+. Check if you need one and buy online.
