Burrow Head

A headland mark on the Machars peninsula with pollock and mackerel to spinners in the summer months, plus dogfish, bull huss, bass and conger from bottom-fished baits. The conger fishing has real potential here, a double-figure specimen is a genuine possibility for anyone rigging up with heavy mono or wire trace and mackerel head or flapper baits on big hooks.

Access: Free shore access, no rod licence needed for sea fishing

Spinners account for most of the pollock and mackerel through summer. Conger anglers need to gear up properly, 100lb-plus mono or wire trace and 6/0-8/0 hooks with mackerel head or flapper baits, for a real shot at a double-figure fish off this ground.

Sea fishing needs no rod licence anywhere in the UK - shore, boat or wreck marks are all licence-free.
