Skye - Staffin

Highland · Coastal

Free

One of several marks around this stretch of north-east Skye that's genuinely good for lure fishing, with the added draw of whales, dolphins or a basking shark showing up while you're casting. Staffin Bay itself is a big sweeping shingle-and-sand bay below the Quiraing, so there's room to work a stretch of shoreline rather than fish one fixed spot.

Access: Free shore access, no rod licence needed for sea fishing

Parking: Roadside parking in Staffin village, on the A855

Lure fishing for pollock, coalfish, wrasse and bass is the main approach here, best in summer. Keep an eye on the water between casts, this stretch of coast regularly turns up whales, dolphins or a basking shark.

Sea fishing needs no rod licence anywhere in the UK - shore, boat or wreck marks are all licence-free.
