Berwick-upon-Tweed - Spittal Beach

Northumberland · Coastal

Free

A wide sandy beach just south of the Tweed estuary at Berwick-upon-Tweed, close to Northumberland's border with Scotland. It's one of two beaches in the town, alongside Gosswick, that produce flatfish, codling and bass from the shore, with the promenade behind giving easy access along most of its length.

Access: Free shore access, no rod licence needed for sea fishing

Parking: Parking along Spittal's promenade and side streets

Flatfish, codling and bass are the main targets from the open sand here. Gosswick Beach further along the coast fishes similarly if this stretch is crowded.
