Neist Point

Highland · Coastal

Free

The westernmost point of the Isle of Skye, a dramatic lighthouse headland with deep water close in and a genuinely good mixed-species mark, bass, pollock, coalfish and flatfish all come to bottom-fished baits, with summer lures adding pollock and mackerel to the mix. It's as much a wildlife-watching spot as a fishing one, whales, dolphins and basking sharks are regularly seen offshore, so bring a pair of binoculars along with the rod.

Access: Free shore access, no rod licence needed for sea fishing

Parking: Car park at the end of the single-track road from Glendale, then a steep path down to the lighthouse

The path down to the lighthouse is steep and can be slippery, worth taking care on in wet weather given how exposed the headland is. Bottom baits work through most of the year for the mixed bag, while summer lures specifically target pollock and mackerel from the deeper water close in.

Sea fishing needs no rod licence anywhere in the UK - shore, boat or wreck marks are all licence-free.
