Cullernose Point

Northumberland · Coastal

Free

A dramatic rocky crag between Craster and Howick where the Whin Sill drops straight into deep water, so you're casting into proper depth without needing much of a chuck. Summer brings pollock, coalfish, wrasse and mackerel working the ledges, while winter switches things to cod, more coalfish and flounders as the water cools.

Access: Free shore access, no rod licence needed for sea fishing

Parking: Roadside parking on the coast road between Craster and Howick, short walk out to the point

Bring heavy tackle and expect to lose end gear, this is proper rotten-bottom-rig territory over broken ground. Treat it with real respect in any kind of swell, the ledges here get engulfed by waves that come from nowhere on a rough day, this is not a mark to fish exposed and alone when the sea's up.

Sea fishing needs no rod licence anywhere in the UK - shore, boat or wreck marks are all licence-free.
