A well-known, popular eating flatfish and a genuine specimen target for shore and boat anglers fishing clean sand and gravel ground, distinguished at a glance by its bright orange spots.

A right-eyed flatfish, smooth-skinned (unlike the rough-textured dab) with distinctive bright orange or reddish-orange spots scattered across an otherwise brown back, a reliable and easy way to identify it.

Found over clean sand and gravel seabeds right around the UK coast, both inshore from the shore and further out fished from boats, with the biggest specimens typically caught over deeper offshore ground.
